The Classmates Interviews. Rose Vickers.
Whilst in Sydney recently i decided to do a little project; contacting and interviewing my former fashion school classmates. Model/ artist/ dreamer Rose was the first to get back to me and in typical ‘Rose style’ is so far outside the box, no one even cares where the box is anymore. She sent me these little scrawled out answers which i have attempted to translate for ease of reading…

Mies Nobis Shoot with Steph Simcox.
The lovely Sydney based photographer Steph Simcox agreed to shoot my brass collection “Skellet” and the “Tier” pendants for me while i was here visiting Sydney.
She has recently moved to a massive warehouse space with some rather buff boys who are building it up around them all; into a great studio/apartment/skate ramp(?!) space. We gathered the combined talents of my Berlin buddy (also escaping the winter) stylist Mim, fresh off the boat Newzealender makeup artist Kelly Marie and beautiful models Anastasia (whose blogforacause ‘Recycling my Marie Claire’ was launched this week) & Julia Rose, and got our creative on- thanks also to Steph’s buff man who was on hand to help with set up stuff and take the final group shot (above)…
We managed to fit about three different looks into one day; with a collection of semi nude body shots classic of Steph’s work, showing the heavy brass cuffs. Some windswept/retro/promdress/vintage style from Mim showing the Tier pendants to perfection and some spontaneously simple images of a not yet available collection of ‘Commandment’ pendants.

How Typical of Metal showroom. Lawson St Redfern. Sydney.
On the way to being early to a Saturday bbq on a very grown roof terrace space with pool and tennis courts, i ended up being late by distraction when i discovered this cute little store with this cute little designer inside (and a junky stealing his notebook outside- but that’s Redfern for you i guess!). Suprisingly located but apparently, despite only opening some time last year (rushed interviews- and really no memory for details) all is  going quite successfully!
The label How Typical of Metal is the “one man show” of Ray Cook; former Gold Coast motorcross rider turned Sydney jewellery designer with a serious bow tie obsession. His undoubtedly individual take on sculptured jewellery resulting in molded leather and roughly hewn marble and onyx pieces with attitude, is showcased alongside some fitting bony brass jewellery from Sydneysters Serpent & the Swan, check it out next time your running late- or early, or just running by…

Rozelle Markets. Sydney.
After a good thousand phone calls i have secured myself a market stall at Rozelle Vintage Markets- the day after the annual exclusive (to those that know people that work in the building) Mardi Gras party on a roof on Oxford St- couldn’t be timed worse but will drag myself out of bed Sunday, to sell my vintage treasures (or arguably trash) at Rozelle Markets! AND because we are allowed to sell 10 or less unvintage items (don’t really understand this rule but just accepting that Sydney generally likes rules and going with it) i will have a little selection of one off Mies Nobis pendants also for sale!
So if your not into ‘Party’ Gras or do manage to drag yourself out of bed (or haven’t yet been!!) that day come along and look out for the messy haired girl asleep behind her stall…

Studio time…
So i set up a make-shift studio in my parents cellar; they now live in an old mansion, and the endless space gets me a bit excited about ‘setting things up’- i now have a bed room, a walk in wardrobe and studio space all set up for the next month or so that I’m in Australia and might just pop by!!
With the help of a sister and her collection of weird and wonderful animal skeleton parts, we got to work experimenting with making silicone molds and casting resin.
Discovered the components of resin go crazy hot when when combined and setting and go all foamy when you add salt…
interesting research but sadly nothing worth showing so far…

Breathing Colours Gallery.
Straight off the plane to Sydney, on bare minimum sleep and unwashed hair (but lets face it that not unheard of) i headed to Balmain to check out the last day of the Breathing Colours Christmas exhibition where amongst other works some of my handmade jewellery pieces are being shown.
The website, which was all i had seen so far, being based in Berlin, doesn’t really do the gallery/retail space justice; a joyful little treasure trove of exciting and colourful Australian design, a visit is more like breathing/eating/dreaming/smoking colours; a happily overwhelming, colourful, inspiring experience. Cheerful owner Jess completing the colour-filled picture with her rosy cheeks and golden curls.
My wish list pieces include Chloe Waddell’s yummy looking ‘freckle’ bangles, Amanda Hasenkam’s cute little sky, earth, sea brooches and Not Tuesdays polymer clay bead necklaces for those of you who haven’t yet gotten me a belatedchristmas/welcomebacktoaustralia/pooryou,youaresobroke gift; take note!
