Introducing SiKRA MAHTO… “Ethnic yet modern Tokyo based accessory brand made by 3 Indonesian masterminds on the run”…
Likes Tim Burton, explosions, travel, galaxies and outer space, love, my iphone, village, market, Indonesian food, sunbathing and movie night.
Dislikes cockroach’s, ignorant stupid people with a lot of talk, doctors, liars, posers, cleaning, new-bought high heels, heavy make up, everything with the word “too”.
The 3 girls; Dilah, Miki and Aras, who study design in Tokyo, launched their clever quirky jewellery/art concept label SiKRA MAHTO just earlier this year at Tokyo’s Design Festa Gallery where they will also be presenting their second collection in Dec; check out their blog for more info, where they document the process from design to sale with refreshingly infectious enthusiasm…
“The concept of our brand is about an artwork identity that can only be made once, so all of our products are hand made and we produced only one product for one design. Our main theme for every collection is basically inspired by the ethnicity of our home country, Indonesia, combined with Japanese modern and urban lifestyle that we live in”.
Now, what do we wanna be when we grew up..hmm
Dilah : part-time designer and entrepreneur , part-time traveler, when I turned 27, 1/3 coolest housewife and mother *hopefully fingers crossed lol
Miki : happy hippie housewife, young and restless designer or artist
Aras : I wanna travel around the world with my sis (Dilah), having a bar in Bali but still designing for SiKRA MAHTO, find a perfect guy and be on TV lol
What do we do now…
Dilah : Just finish my education from Tama Art University, Tokyo, Japan, bachelor of art majoring in textile design. Now, trying to get a job in Tokyo, Japan while designing for SiKRA MAHTO.
Miki : Studying fashion design in Bunka Gakuen University, Tokyo, Japan while doing SiKRA MAHTO.
Aras : Studying graphic and product design in Bunka Gakuen University, Tokyo, Japan while doing SiKRA MAHTO.
What do we love and hate about what we do…
Dilah : I love drawing and doing detail works, so I love it when we have to sketch our designs and working on the tiny details. But I hate when I have to use industrial heavy tools to cut metals and woods, I’m just not good with it.
Miki : I love to visualized what I saw as my inspiration, kinda a thinker. I hate to cut woods like Dilah, it’s also not my thing.
Aras : When I work on a school assignment, I love to create products using industrial tools like electric saw and other stuff. And i love to work with computers too. I hate it when I have to sew, always stab my own fingers with sewing needle.
our inspiration…
Dilah : Mother nature, tribal and ethnic stuff, tattoos, triangle and edgy shapes and styles.
Miki : Water, the air, what I see, hear and what people speak, and feelings.
Aras : Daydreams, nice dreams and nightmares.
“Sorry, we’re three talkative persons, so much to write”…
