The extensive Nobis Family Christmas.
Bit behind the times but one of the nice things about returning back home after a time of absence is seeing everything with fresh eyes, my poor parents have just moved house (for the 3rd time this year- don’t ask) and all their old familiar trinkets that i grew up seeing displayed in a new setting, mixed in with Christmas baubles and delicious food (can i just mention because my family is sick of hearing it; an amazing new talent i have discovered for making dips; shown is beetroot&walnut, carrot&orange and white bean&blue cheese- move over nigella!!!) all suddenly so very visually inspiring…

Karl Fritsch & Lisa Walker: Interesting Pieces of Jewellery.
Entrepot Gallery, Hobart, Australia.
Just formulating a plan to get myself to Hobart this week, never given Tasmania more that fleeting thoughts but a lot of loved ones have visited and loved it in recent times and right now Karl Fritsch & Lisa Walker: Interesting Pieces of Jewellery a very intriguing exhibition is showing and so i am contemplating a trip across the water to check it out.
I find Karl Fritsch’s work (shown above) especially captivating, created through a process of buying pre-loved jewellery pieces that are broken and being sold for scrap and reworking and recasting to create strange combinations of half comfortably familiar half wildly unusual shapes
To be honest i probably won’t make it as continuous jetsetting and starting up my own jewellery label have exhausted my funds to a point of non existance, but you know it was a nice thought…

Breathing Colours Gallery.
Straight off the plane to Sydney, on bare minimum sleep and unwashed hair (but lets face it that not unheard of) i headed to Balmain to check out the last day of the Breathing Colours Christmas exhibition where amongst other works some of my handmade jewellery pieces are being shown.
The website, which was all i had seen so far, being based in Berlin, doesn’t really do the gallery/retail space justice; a joyful little treasure trove of exciting and colourful Australian design, a visit is more like breathing/eating/dreaming/smoking colours; a happily overwhelming, colourful, inspiring experience. Cheerful owner Jess completing the colour-filled picture with her rosy cheeks and golden curls.
My wish list pieces include Chloe Waddell’s yummy looking ‘freckle’ bangles, Amanda Hasenkam’s cute little sky, earth, sea brooches and Not Tuesdays polymer clay bead necklaces for those of you who haven’t yet gotten me a belatedchristmas/welcomebacktoaustralia/pooryou,youaresobroke gift; take note!
